Whiting & Davis Bag

This is a rare find! Whiting & Davis are the name in mesh bags.

Charles A. Whiting hand wove the first mesh handbag way back in 1892, adapting the ancient art of chainmail into a new and exciting fabric. Through out the eras Whiting & Davis reinvented the mesh handbag, ensuring it never went out of style. They have collaborated with Elsa Schiaparelli, assisted the war effort by providing radar equipment, partnered with Twentieth Century Fox and Vogue to promote the 60’s blockbuster Cleopatra, and even designed the world’s first full body mesh suit that was designed to withstand shark bites!

This amazing 1960’s Whiting & Davis handbag is particularly special due to the unusual tortoiseshell colour. The bag features a sturdy gold double chain and a strong press stud fastener. The Whiting & Davis label is still intact inside the bag (though a little frayed).

This item is in great condition. There is a small amount of fraying on the inside of the flap and two very small scratches on the front of the bag. They are not noticeable and do not detract from the look of the bag.
